Learning Objectives

This training takes a deep dive into four integral principles of resourcing and stabilization to prepare birth trauma survivors for trauma processing: 1) working within the Window of Tolerance; 2) engaging in adaptive coping for nervous system dysregulation; 3) increasing emotional and somatic literacy; 4) strengthening dual awareness; and 5) understanding five factors of the Postpartum Wellness Model. Participants will learn how to explain these concepts to their clients using easy-to-understand language. Participants will come away equipped with deeper knowledge and clinical tools to integrate into their clinical practice with survivors of birth trauma.

  • Understand the Window of Tolerance, including how to teach this concept to clients and incorporate psychoeducation about the neurobiology of trauma into the clinical dialogue.

  • Understand the conceptual importance of emotional/somatic literacy, and how to help clients enhance this skill.

  • Learn how to help clients identify somatic and relational resources (relational resources may include the baby, partner, doula, or other caregivers/providers).

  • Demonstrate understanding of interventions that help clients practice and enhance capacity for dual awareness (Flashback Halting Protocol, CIPOS).

  • Understand five factors of the Postpartum Wellness Model.
