Learning Objectives

Working with individuals who are struggling with trauma and dissociation can present challenges during the reprocessing phases of EMDR. This workshop teaches participants how to assess subclinical dissociation and how to use the Constant Installation of Present Orientation and Safety Protocol (CIPOS, developed by Jim Knipe, PhD) to counteract dissociation. Participants will learn how to integrate information gathered from the client’s engagement with CIPOS to conceptualize treatment planning. Participants will practice CIPOS in breakout dyads during the workshop.

  • Recognize signs of clinical and subclinical dissociation (introduction to the SDQ-5)

  • Identify clinical situations where CIPOS can be helpful

  • Learn assessment tools for clinical and subclinical dissociation

  • Learn how to implement the CIPOS protocol
