Learning Objectives

This training teaches recommendations for providing culturally attuned EMDR to survivors of racial and cultural trauma. Participants will increase their cultural awareness and humility as they learn clinical adaptations to EMDR that accompany practicing EMDR through an anti-oppressive lens and will learn culturally grounded interventions to incorporate into their clinical practice when working with individuals who have experienced trauma related to racial and cultural oppression. Ife Kehinde, LMHC will teach participants about legacy attuned resourcing, target identification procedures for social and cultural oppression, and will teach participants how to clarify negative cognitions (NCs) as they relate to racialized experiences. Participants will come away equipped with deeper knowledge and clinical tools to integrate into their EMDR practice.

  • Increase cultural awareness and humility when providing EMDR treatment to clients who identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC)

  • Identify adaptations to EMDR that accompany practicing through an anti-oppressive lens with BIPOC clients

  • Learn culturally grounded interventions to incorporate into EMDR practice with survivors of racial and cultural oppression

Instructor(s)

Ife Kehinde, LMHC

Ife Kehinde is a 1st generation Nigerian-American immigrant who has been working in mental health care for 8+ years and has the privilege of helping many individuals with varying life experiences. Most of the people she has had the honor of helping are coping with issues from anxiety/depression, PTSD, CPTSD to work stress, and setting healthy boundaries. She works with individuals from marginalized communities, with cross-cultural, ethnic, gender, and religious identity issues. She also sees people who struggle with addiction and/or who may be adult survivors of abuse (psychological, physical, and sexual). All in all, the people who walk through her office door have experienced some kind of trauma and are looking for support and safety to better understand and heal.
