Learning Objectives

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) has demonstrated efficacy in treating trauma, particularly within the perinatal population (Chiorino et al., 2019). This two-hour training session focuses on understanding and applying EMDR techniques to address birth trauma effectively. Participants will explore the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and learn the EMDR Protocol for Recent Birth Trauma (EMDR-RBT), emphasizing techniques tailored to traumatic childbirth experiences. The training underscores EMDR's ability to reduce postpartum PTSD symptoms and enhance perinatal mental health, providing attendees with theoretical knowledge and practical tools for application in clinical settings.

  • Understand the efficacy of EMDR within the perinatal population.

  • Conceptualize birth trauma using the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model.

  • Differentiate the components of telescopic processing (EMD, EMDr, and EMDR), including when and how to apply these techniques.

  • Learn the EMDR Recent Birth Trauma Protocol.
