Learning Objectives

This training focuses on practical strategies for identifying and organizing EMDR targets to create effective treatment plans with complex clients. Participants will review the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and EMDR’s three-pronged protocol. Participants will identify key informational areas that shape treatment planning and then define first-order and the “2-method approach” for target selection (de Jongh, ten Broeke, & Meijer, 2010). Additionally, participants will explore ways to collaborate with clients through shared decision-making, ensuring that target selection aligns with therapy goals. Participants will come away with tools to organize and sequence targets in a way that meets clients’ unique needs and supports successful trauma processing.
